Rotate PDF Online – Turn PDF Pages the Right Way
Have a PDF with sideways scans, upside-down pages, or a mix of portrait and landscape layouts? Rotate PDF helps you correct page orientation without rebuilding the document from scratch. Choose a 90-degree clockwise turn, a 90-degree counterclockwise turn, or a 180-degree rotation, then apply it to the entire PDF, one selected page, or a custom page range.
Use the page preview to identify what needs fixing, choose the rotation and page scope, and download a separate corrected PDF. The workflow is designed to be straightforward on desktop and mobile browsers.
Why Would You Need to Rotate a PDF?
PDF files do not always arrive with every page facing the right direction. A document may contain scanned pages that were fed into a scanner sideways, a page photographed in landscape orientation, or a report assembled from files with different layouts. Reading, printing, reviewing, or sharing such a document can be frustrating.
Rotating a PDF is useful when you need to:
- Correct scanned pages that appear sideways or upside down.
- Fix a single page without changing the orientation of the rest of the document.
- Correct a group of pages that share the same incorrect orientation.
- Prepare a report, form, invoice, manual, or presentation for easier viewing.
- Make a document more convenient to read on a phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop.
What Makes the Rotate PDF Tool Useful?
Rotate pages 90° clockwise, 90° counterclockwise, or 180° to correct common orientation problems.
Apply a rotation to all pages, the page currently shown in the preview, or a custom range.
Navigate through the original pages to identify which pages need to be corrected.
Select a PDF from your device or drag and drop it into the upload area.
Download a rotated copy while keeping the source PDF available as a backup.
The tool is designed to work in a modern browser without requiring an account or desktop installation.
Use the same basic workflow on a computer, tablet, or compatible mobile browser.
Correct only the pages that need it instead of applying the same rotation to the entire file.
How to Rotate a PDF Online
Follow these steps to correct the orientation of your PDF pages.
- Open the Rotate PDF tool.
Go to the tool on this page. Have the PDF you want to correct ready on your device. - Upload your PDF file.
Click the upload area and choose your PDF, or drag and drop the file into the upload box. Wait for the page preview and document details to load. - Review the page preview.
Use Previous and Next to move through the document. Identify whether the pages are sideways, upside down, or correctly oriented. - Select the rotation angle.
Choose 90° Clockwise, 90° Counterclockwise, or 180° depending on how the page needs to turn. - Choose which pages to rotate.
Select All Pages to rotate the whole document, Current Preview Page Only to correct one page, or Custom Page Range to specify the first and last page numbers. - Check the page range.
If you choose a custom range, make sure the first page number is not greater than the last page number and that both numbers fall within the document's page count. - Rotate and download.
Click Rotate & Download PDF and allow the browser to generate the new file. - Verify the result.
Open the downloaded PDF and inspect the corrected pages. If a page turns the wrong way, return to the original file and repeat the process with a different rotation option.
Understanding the Three Rotation Options
Rotate 90° clockwise
This turns a page one quarter-turn to the right. It is often the right choice when a scanned page appears on its side and the top of the document should move toward the right during rotation. Preview the page first so you can confirm the direction you need.
Rotate 90° counterclockwise
This turns a page one quarter-turn to the left. Choose it when a sideways page needs to turn in the opposite direction from clockwise rotation. If the first direction makes the page harder to read, try the other direction using the original PDF.
Rotate 180°
This turns the page halfway around, placing the top at the bottom and the bottom at the top. It is useful for pages that are completely upside down but are otherwise in the correct portrait or landscape layout.
| Current problem | Rotation to try | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Page is sideways, top points left | 90° clockwise or counterclockwise, depending on the preview | Make sure the heading is at the top and text reads normally. |
| Page is sideways in the opposite direction | Try the opposite 90° direction | Confirm the page is upright before exporting the full file. |
| Page is upside down | 180° | Check that text and diagrams are no longer inverted. |
| Only a few pages are incorrect | Rotate the current page or use a custom range | Make sure correctly oriented pages are left unchanged. |
Rotate All Pages, One Page, or a Custom Range
Rotate all pages
Choose All Pages when the entire document has the same orientation problem. This can save time for a PDF created from a batch of sideways scans. Before applying the rotation, preview several pages to ensure the same correction is appropriate throughout the file.
Rotate only the current preview page
Choose Current Preview Page Only when a single page is incorrect. First navigate to that page in the preview, then select the rotation and export. This option is particularly useful for reports where one inserted scan is sideways but all other pages are correct.
Rotate a custom page range
Choose Custom Page Range when a consecutive group of pages needs the same correction. Enter the first and last page numbers, then double-check the range. For example, if pages 4 through 7 are sideways, select 4 as the first page and 7 as the last page.
Tips for Scanned PDFs and Mixed Orientations
- Check more than the first page. Scanned documents may contain pages with different orientations.
- Use the page count as a guide. When entering a custom range, stay within the total number of pages shown by the tool.
- Do not rotate everything automatically. If some pages are already correct, use the current-page or custom-range option instead.
- Distinguish rotation from page dimensions. A portrait page rotated to landscape may display differently, but rotation does not necessarily crop, resize, or redesign the page content.
- Inspect tables and diagrams. After rotation, check that the page is comfortable to read and that important content remains visible.
- Keep an original copy. If the result is not right, start again from the original PDF rather than repeatedly rotating the same exported file.
- Review the downloaded file. A preview helps you choose settings, but the exported PDF is the final result that matters.
Privacy and File Handling
The tool is designed to process PDF content in the browser and export a separate rotated copy. It does not require an account for the basic workflow. The page loads its PDF-processing libraries from external content delivery networks, so an internet connection is needed to load those libraries. As with any browser-based utility, the actual privacy environment also depends on the website hosting the tool, the browser, and the scripts loaded on the page.
- Use a trusted device when working with private documents.
- Keep a backup of important original PDFs.
- Avoid processing confidential files on public or shared computers.
- Open the exported PDF before sending it to another person.
- For highly sensitive documents, follow your organization's document-handling and privacy requirements.
Troubleshooting: When Rotation Does Not Work
The PDF will not upload or open
Make sure you selected a valid PDF file. A damaged, encrypted, or unusually complex PDF may not open in the browser-based processing library. If possible, try a valid, unprotected copy.
The exported page is still sideways
The selected direction may have been the opposite of what the page needed. Reopen the original PDF, choose the other 90-degree direction, and inspect the result. For a page that is upside down rather than sideways, try 180°.
Some pages rotated correctly but others did not
The document may contain mixed page orientations. Use Current Preview Page Only or Custom Page Range instead of applying one rotation to all pages.
The browser becomes slow with a large PDF
Large documents can require significant memory. Close other heavy browser tabs, try a smaller file, or process the document in sections if needed. The tool has a file-size limit, but actual performance also depends on your device and browser.
The page preview does not appear
Check that the browser is connected to the internet so the PDF processing libraries can load. If the preview still fails, refresh the page and try a different PDF.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I rotate a PDF without installing software?
Yes. The tool is designed to work in a modern web browser without requiring a desktop application or account. An internet connection is needed to load the page's PDF libraries.
Can I rotate just one page in a PDF?
Yes. Navigate to the page in the preview, choose Current Preview Page Only, select the rotation angle, and export the file.
Can I rotate only pages 5 through 10?
Yes. Select Custom Page Range, enter 5 as the first page and 10 as the last page, then choose the rotation and export.
Does rotating a PDF change its text or images?
Rotation changes the page orientation stored in the PDF. It is not intended to edit the text or images themselves, and it does not perform OCR on scanned pages.
Will rotation reduce PDF quality?
Page rotation is generally a change to the page's orientation metadata rather than a process that rasterizes every page. Still, verify the exported PDF in a reader, especially if the source contains unusual features or restrictions.
Can I rotate portrait pages to landscape?
A 90-degree rotation changes the displayed orientation of a page. It does not redesign the content or guarantee that the page will fit a particular print layout; inspect the result before printing.
Does the tool overwrite the original file?
No. The normal workflow downloads a separate rotated PDF, allowing you to keep the source file unchanged as a backup.
What if I rotate the page in the wrong direction?
Return to the original PDF and repeat the operation using the opposite 90-degree option or 180 degrees as appropriate. Starting from the original helps avoid confusion from multiple rotations.
Correct Your PDF Page Orientation
Rotate PDF makes it easier to fix sideways scans, upside-down pages, and documents with mixed orientations. Upload your PDF, choose the right angle, select the pages that need correction, and download a separate copy. For the best result, preview the document carefully and verify the exported file before sharing or printing it.
